The Music God Gave Me

Updated: Jan 16, 2020

When I was in elementary school I was in love with music. I remember vividly being on the swingset at North Pennfield Elementary School swinging and practicing singing scales over and over again in an effort to make them "perfect."

During my secondary education at Pennfield Schools I participated in every music organizaton I could. I participated in band and choir at school, and I sang with my church choir at Baseline United Methodist Church. I began studying guitar in middle school. While at Pennfield High School I participated in the musical productions, the high school choirs, and I particpated with a local Youth for Christ band.

My life changed dramatically one Sunday. I desperately wanted to write music. I had studied music for years. I had tried to write music. I was frustrated. I just wasn't inspired to write. I was missing the "spark". That all changed in minutes.

I was listening to the pastor speak about faith. She suggested laying a "fleece" before the Lord. I immediately went into prayer commiting to God that if He would inspire me to write songs I would abandond MY plan for my life, and I would spend my life writing and performing music for Him. Pastor talked of a deep faith that would trust in any circumstances. She mentioned about having the faith to walk out over Niagra Falls on a tightrope if necessay and trusting that God would guide your steps.

As she spoke all of a sudden I heard a song in my head! I heard the melody and the orchestration. It was all there. I grabbed all the offering envelopes out of the pews (some will remember those days of offering envelopes) and began scrambling to write it all down before I lost it. After service I raced home and played what I heard in my ear on the piano. I was so excited! I told everyone "I wrote a song! I wrote a song!" Then it hit me. The fleece.

I have to admit I had thoughts of "what have I done?" " Was that really GOD?" I knew it was my answer and I knew that I needed to honor my commitment to pursue Gospel music.

That is the beginning of the story. There have been MANY glorious chapters. I look forward to using this blog to tell the story in posts. Please feel free to subscribe to the blog and website to keep up on future posts. I will be posting information about the ministries with which I'm currently involved and sharing how I got here. I hope that it will encourage and inspire you.

God's richest always....
